What you are agreeing to when you leave a device with us. We have tried to write this so it can actually be read. If anything here is unclear, call or text and we will explain it.
The short version, if you read nothing else:
By handing over your device you authorise us to carry out diagnostic and repair work on it, and you agree to provide any passwords or passcodes needed to test and repair it.
Without a passcode we cannot verify a repair was successful. If you would rather not share it we will still do the work, but we can only confirm the device powers on — not that the fault is resolved. In that case the warranty in section 5 will not cover a fault we were never able to test for.
You are responsible for backing up your data before service. Data loss can happen during diagnosis or repair, including on jobs where it seems unlikely. We are not liable for lost, corrupted or exposed data, software, or software licences.
If you are not sure how to back up your device, ask us before you drop it off and we will point you in the right direction. It takes a few minutes and it has saved plenty of people a lot of grief.
If you do not know what is wrong with your device, we will find out, then tell you what it needs, what it costs and how long it will take.
The diagnostic is payable when you drop the device off. It is priced by the size of the device:
We will tell you which applies before we start, so there are no surprises.
If you go ahead with the repair, that fee comes off your final bill in full. Effectively the diagnosis costs you nothing.
If you decide not to proceed — because of cost, because parts would take too long, or for any other reason — the fee covers the technician time already spent, and the device is returned to you.
If we cannot work out what is wrong, or cannot fix it at all, we refund the diagnostic fee. We do not charge you for a problem we could not solve.
An estimate is not a fixed quote. It is our best assessment before opening the device. If diagnosis reveals additional faults needing extra parts or labour, we will contact you for approval before doing any further work. We do not carry out unapproved work and we do not bill for it.
Repairs that need expensive parts take a $100 deposit. Some parts cost several hundred dollars, and we pay the supplier out of our own pocket the moment you approve the job so they can be ordered.
We use OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts or top-tier aftermarket parts, and we will tell you which before we fit anything.
Repairs are covered for 90 days, on the specific part we replaced and the labour that went with it. If it fails within that window under normal use, bring it back and we make it right at no charge.
The warranty does not cover:
We will let you know as soon as your device is ready, or as soon as we have established that we cannot proceed.
Devices not collected within 60 days of that notification are treated as abandoned. We reserve the right to sell, recycle or dispose of them to recover unpaid repair costs and storage.
We would far rather give you your device back. If you are having trouble collecting, get in touch and we will work something out — but we cannot store devices indefinitely.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for damage caused during repair is limited to the market value of the device in its pre-repair condition, or the cost of a replacement of equivalent specification, whichever is lower.
We are not responsible for pre-existing damage or cosmetic flaws, for later instability in devices that already had damage (particularly liquid-damaged units), or for consequential losses such as lost income, lost data, missed opportunities, or the cost of a replacement device while yours is with us.
Liquid-damaged electronics are unpredictable and we take them on a best-efforts basis only. Corrosion carries on long after the liquid has dried. Components that are partly working can fail completely during cleaning or diagnosis, through no fault of the technician. A device that powers on when you bring it in may not power on afterwards.
Liquid-damaged devices carry no warranty and no refunds. If a liquid-damaged device fails after we return it — days or weeks later — that is the corrosion continuing, not the repair failing. We have already bought the parts and done the work, so we cannot refund it.
By submitting a liquid-damaged device you accept that risk. We will tell you honestly what we think the odds are before we start, and we will not take your money on a device we believe is beyond saving. If you would rather not take the chance, say so and we will hand it straight back.
Third-party repair may void an existing manufacturer warranty or an insurance policy on your device. This is worth checking before you commit, especially on newer hardware still inside its original coverage.
Payment is due on collection unless we have agreed otherwise in advance. The diagnostic fee in section 3 is payable at drop-off, and deposits under section 4 are payable before we order parts.
By submitting your device for diagnosis or repair, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these terms.
